Cariboo Regional District will bring board meetings and BBQ to 108 Mile Ranch

The meeting will be held on June 20 at the Ckultenellcw Cultural Centre in 108 Mile Ranch

The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) will be holding their next Board on the Road meeting in the 108 Mile Ranch.

The meeting is scheduled for June 20, at the Ckultenellcw Cultural Centre and will discuss several items related to the CRD. Gerald Pinchbeck, who is the manager of communications with the CRD, said he could not go into detail about what will be discussed because he does not have access to the preliminary agenda.

"This would be like any other regular board meeting, where we will review any active planning applications, matters of administrative or financial interest for the CRD. There could be various community service applications and program approvals that may be considered at the meeting," Pinchbeck noted. "We'll also have a committee of the whole meeting for items that require more in-depth conversation with the directors on the day before a board meeting."

Board on the Road meetings take place twice per year in the CRD, which is one of the largest regional districts in British Columbia. Pinchbeck said that they do this to provide directors with the opportunity to connect with their constituents outside of Williams Lake on a more regular basis.

"This is an opportunity for the rest of the board to get to know these other electoral areas and the residents that live in them," said Pinchbeck.

In addition to the Board on the Road meeting, there will be a BBQ that will be held the day before, which is a free public event.

"All people have to do is come to the site and get in line for the food at the barbecue. We're hoping that they take the chance to learn more about the programs and services we offer and help support in the region. (They can) also connect with our electoral area directors to let us know what they think about those services and programs for any issues that may be impacting them directly," stated Pinchbeck.

The barbecue is set to be held on June 19 between 5 and 7 p.m.

The CRD had decided to hold the meeting at the Ckultenellcw Cultural Centre after consulting with CRD Area G Director Al Richmond about the communities and halls that could host the meeting, and selected the space because it was the newest in the electoral area, amongst other reasons.

"It's a great window into the culture of the Northern Secwepemc peoples," said Pinchbeck. "We appreciate being able to host meetings from that centre, it's emblematic of the culture of the people who have lived there since time immemorial, and for us, it's an opportunity to just be welcome in that space."
