The B.C. Wildfire Service has brought a small wildfire on an island on Bridge Lake under control.
The fire, categorized as C40394, was first discovered on Tuesday, May 27, on a small island located in Bridge Lake across from the Bridge Lake Ice Caves. Members of the B.C. Wildfire service responded to the wildfire, along with the support of members of the Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department, with a helicopter also providing assistance.
Due to the isolation of the fire, the B.C. Wildfire Service was not concerned by the potential of it spreading. As of 8 p.m. on May 27, they have listed the fire as being 0.3 hectares in size and under control. The suspected cause for this wildfire is listed as humans.
The Cariboo Fire Centre said there is currently no ban on Category 1 fires, such as campfires, within the fire centre. However, they do ask that anyone who does plan on having a campfire to never leave it unattended and ensure they have plenty of water and a proper hand tool nearby to help extinguish the fire. Residents are also advised to refrain from lighting campfires on windy days.
