No serious injuries were sustained in a head-on collision between two vehicles on Highway 97 near Spring Lake Road.
This incident was one of 94 that the 100 Mile House RCMP responded to last week and took place on Tuesday, April 15. Sgt. Brian Lamb said RCMP attended with EHS and local fire departments.
"It is believed that a vehicle travelling south crossed the centre line and struck a northbound vehicle," Lamb explained. "A driver of one of the vehicles received injuries that were not believed to be serious."
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this incident, but Lamb noted that what exactly caused the collision remains under investigation.
Attempted theft leads to destruction of groceries
On Tuesday, April 8, RCMP responded to a report of theft from a business on the 90 block of Highway 97, Lamb said, noting a female had been observed taking a grocery cart of food items from the store without paying.
When staff approached the individual, she left the items and fled in a vehicle, which subsequently struck the shopping cart and destroyed the items inside. Police are following up on this incident by reviewing surveillance footage, Lamb added.
Impaired drivers taken off the road
On Sunday, April 13, 100 Mile House RCMP dealt with two separate incidents involving suspected impaired driving.
The first incident occurred on Birch Avenue when RCMP stopped a vehicle for a motor vehicle act offence. After speaking with the driver, RCMP suspected alcohol consumption and conducted a breath test with an approved screening device. This resulted in a fail, leading to the driver's vehicle being impounded for 30 days and a 90-day roadside driving prohibition.
The other incident occurred in the 300 block of Highway 97 after a witness observed a person in a vehicle drinking from a liquor container. Lamb said officers investigated and located the vehicle stopped in the middle of Canim Hendrix Lake Road.
"Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle, where observations of alcohol impairment were made," Lamb said. "A breath test using an approved screening device was conducted, which resulted in a fail. The driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days."
Vehicle fails to stop for school bus
On Monday, April 14, a vehicle failed to stop for a school bus driving along Horse Lake Road. Lamb said officers reviewed footage from the school bus that showed evidence of the event. Using this video, officers were able to locate the registered owner of the vehicle and serve them a violation ticket.
Vehicle stolen from Eagle Creek Road
A grey 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with B.C. license WN6933 was stolen from property on Eagle Lake Road sometime in the last week. Lamb said the theft was reported to RCMP on April 15, and there is a fishing decal on the back window that is distinctive. At this time, the vehicle remains missing.
