100 Mile Legion Branch 260 Legion donates $9,500 to community groups

Longtime Legion members Ray Carlson and Alan Boyd both received recognition as well

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 260 in 100 Mile House made several donations to the community at its Oct. 29 meeting.

A total of $9,500 was donated to six community groups. Representatives from each of the groups were on hand to accept the funds except the 100 Mile House & District Blind & Visually Impaired Cane Club which received $500 but was unable to attend.

A second piece of business was the presentation of awards to two long-time members. Ray Carlson was presented with his 55-year pin and Alan Boyd received a 50-year pin.

Boyd, who is not a veteran, is a founding member of the Branch 260 legion and took out the debenture to get the organization going. He got misty-eyed receiving the recognition.

“He has no military affiliation except maybe his grandfather or something,” said Ernie Kovacs, the Legion’s servicer officer/veterans liaison.

Bobby Jack Evans, legion director emphasized the importance of the recognition and said the pins were beautiful gold ribbon medals with a gold medallion.
