100 Mile House RCMP are investigating reports of a fire being lit in the parking lot of a business in the 108 Mile Ranch.

Sgt. Brian Lamb said the incident was reported to the RCMP on Sunday, April 20, by a witness who observed the fire burning about six feet away from the business, located in the 4000 block of Easzee Drive. The witness subsequently extinguished the fire.

"Police have viewed surveillance where a female is observed setting papers on fire and then running from the scene toward Highway 97," Lamb said.

Based on the surveillance footage, Lamb said the suspect is described as a 30-40-year-old female with a thin build and shoulder-length black hair. At the time of the alleged incident, she was seen wearing black pants, a black jacket, black leather boots and a fedora.

RCMP said this incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 20 based on the surveillance footage. This incident was one of 91 calls to service RCMP responded to last week.

SUV and Semi-Truck involved in head-on collision

Earlier on Sunday, RCMP responded to a head-on collision on Highway 97 near Lac La Hache that closed down the highway for several hours. Lamb said a collision occurred between an SUV and a semi-truck.

"It is believed the SUV crossed the centre line and contacted the side of the trailer attached to the semi truck," Lamb said. "Impairment was not suspected as a factor, but it is suspected the driver of the SUV may have been distracted from the road momentarily and crossed over into the oncoming lane."

Lamb said that in addition to the RCMP, both EHS and local fire departments attended the scene. Both occupants of the SUV were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment of "undermined injuries." The driver of the semi truck was not injured in the incident.

There were some delays to traffic flow in the area while the scene was cleared, Lamb added.

Object thrown through business window

On Wednesday, April 16, Lamb said officers received a report of mischief to property that had occurred on April 14.

A female described as standing at 5'4" with a slim build, short dyed red hair and black clothing was observed allegedly throwing an object through a business window located in the 300 block of Birch Avenue. Lamb said RCMP believe the incident occurred at 7 p.m.

Food stolen in B&E

On April 19, 2025, RCMP received a report of a break and enter to a business located on Exeter Truck Route. Sometime overnight, a building was entered where damage was done to enter the building as well as damage once inside. Food items were taken.

Police pull over speeder

Lamb said that on Saturday, April 19, BC Highway Patrol was out conducting speed enforcement on Highway 97 north of Lac La Hache. During this time a vehicle was observed travelling at speeds exceeding 100 km/h, with radar confirming the vehicle was going 151 km/h.

Officers stopped the vehicle and issued the driver a violation ticket for excessive speed and impounded their vehicle for seven days.
