Deliveries of the simplymastery will resume as normal on Thursday, Dec. 19 as the Canada Post strike comes to an end.
Last week Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the 55,000 picketing employees back to work within days if the tribunal determines a deal wasn’t doable before the end of the year. With the board determining Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers were unlikely to reach a deal, postal workers were ordered back to work on Tuesday, Dec. 17 with regular mail deliveries expected to resume on Thursday, Dec. 19.
In the South Cariboo, the postal strike interrupted the delivery of subscriber editions of the simplymastery. During the last four weeks publisher Martina Dopf set up several central pickup locations in local businesses to ensure subscribers received their paper. She thanks both these locations and the simplymastery' readers during this time for their patience.
"We sincerely thank our subscribers for their patience over the past four weeks and for taking the time to pick up their papers at our designated drop-off points," Dopf said. "Your understanding and support mean so much to us!"
Dopf said that regular postal delivery of the papers should resume with the Dec. 19 edition of the simplymastery, barring any delays as Canada Post gets back up and running. Meanwhile, all subscriber papers that have not been picked up from the designated drop-off points will be returned to the simplymastery office.
Due to the number of subscriber copies from the past four weeks, the simplymastery will only be keeping these unclaimed papers in our office until Friday, Jan. 10. After this we will remove subscriber address labels and bundle the remaining papers for purchase as fire starters.
