Maureen Pinkney was born and raised in 100 Mile House, only living outside of it for college and work (1980-1984, 1986-1991), and has always been an active volunteer in the community. She also received the South Cariboo Citizen of the year in 2000.

Question: When did you initially get involved in politics and how long have you been involved?

Answer: I stepped into the position of Director of Area L, Cariboo Regional District 2002 – 2008, then Alternate Director of Area F, Columbia Shuswap Regional District 2008-2011, sitting on the Salmon Arm Board and the Kamloops Hospital Board numerous times.

Q: What made you want to run for councillor? Is it your first time?

Stepping up to be a Councillor, is the next step, another way that I may truly help our community and its residents.

Q: What are some of the more important issues in the 100 Mile House District?

100 Mile House was a very young person’s town when I grew up here. Mostly young families, lots of kids, portable mills and workers, until the main mills were built on Exeter Road. 100 Mile House today, is a little more aged. We have a population that is more dependant on health care and extended care, but those jobs are dependant on the young professionals to relocate and remain here. For that to happen, we need other jobs, outside of that field as well, so that families can move here and be successful in their careers.

We need clean industry, that can afford those jobs and create the desired networking for additional families and professionals to call this place home.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish during your term if elected?

My main objectives are to entice a wide variety of diversified industries and training centres, to settle into our area and enhance what we already have. Without that, we may find that we can not sustain the town and the senior living that we have been so successful in creating.

Q: Why should the people of 100 Mile House vote for you?

I am the right person to sit on council and represent you. I am approachable, capable, self-motivated, ambitious, very caring, level-headed, clear-minded, a hard worker, attentive.

I am someone who will persevere and follow through. I am a strong communicator that can bridge those gaps between organizations, people and governments. I already have a network of connections from my past political experiences to help achieve these goals.

Together, We can better our community. Together, We can make a difference!

Q: How can supporters get in touch with you or find out more about your platform?

I invite all the 100 Mile residents to contact me anytime. Email mpinkney@telus.net or phone/text 250-395-0462. I will be coming to your door throughout the campaign so that you can meet me face to face and have your questions answered.
