Keeton Bijl of the Vernon Panthers (11) watches as teammate Ayden McDonald hits the end zone for the first of his two majors on the day, before College Heights Cougars defender William Wightman can bring him down. Bijl, McDonald, and the Cats will get a chance to defend their B.C. championship this Saturday, Nov. 30, after dumping the Cougars 36-14 in the B.C. AA Senior Boys Varsity Football semifinal victory Saturday, Nov. 23, at B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver.

With a semifinal triumph on Saturday, the Vernon Senior Panthers are one win away from repeating as provincial high school football champions.

The top-ranked Panthers faced the College Heights Cougars of Prince George in the B.C. AA High School Senior Varsity Football semifinal game at B.C. Place Nov. 23, and earned a 36-14 victory.

Ayden McDonald led the champs with two touchdowns while single majors went to Jeff Curtis, Anderson Bicknell, and Keltyn McAreavy.

The Panthers, who won the 2023 provincial crown with a nailbiting 23-22 win against the John Barsby Bulldogs from Nanaimo last year, now have their sights set on back-to-back championships.

VSS will take on the Windsor Wolves of North Vancouver in the provincial championship game at B.C. Place next Saturday, Nov. 30. Game time is listed as 12:30 p.m.

The teams have been ranked 1-2 all season.

The Wolves defeated the Robert Bateman Timberwolves of Abbotsford by a score of 44-28 in the first semifinal game Saturday.
