QMS celebrates sportsmanship and achievement

The Athletic Leadership Award is given to a student who has shown exceptional leadership

Brothers Carter and Brayden Zuback were named the boys senior and junior Athletes of the Year, respectively, at Queen Margaret's School annual athletic awards earlier this month. The duo were just two of many student-athletes to receive the school's major sports awards.

The senior girls Athlete of the Year award was earned by Layla Walker while Elsie Jones secured junior girls Athlete of the Year honours.

Sara Lin and Alonso Chacon Valdes were the Grade 8 Athletes of the year.

At QMS, Athlete of the Year awards are presented to students who have demonstrated consistent and outstanding athletic performance, leadership, and sportsmanship. Recipients are positive role models who inspire and uplift their teammates.

The Athletic Leadership Award is given to a student who has shown exceptional leadership, contributing meaningfully to the growth and spirit of the QMS athletic community and this year that recipient was Rui Wang.

The Spirit of the Royals Award — presented to a Grade 10 athlete who exemplifies the QMS values of personal excellence, character, and service in all areas of school life — was given to Honey White.

Mike Chen received the Coach's Award. It's given to a Grade 10-12 student who consistently demonstrates passion, respect, commitment, and a strong work ethic, both on and off the field.

In addition to her Athlete of the Year honours, Elsie Jones was presented with the Jan Green All Round Excellence in Sports Trophy.

The prestigious award honours a student who excels across multiple sports and has made a significant, positive impact on the QMS Athletics program.

"Queen Margaret’s School is proud to recognize the achievements, leadership and sportsmanship of our exceptional student-athletes through our annual athletics awards," said school spokesperson Hayley Picard. "These honours celebrate individuals who have contributed to the spirit and success of the QMS Athletics program across all levels."
