Oceanside Services Committee endorses applications for grants

Recreation and community grants for fall of 2024

The Oceanside Services Committee approved a number of applications for grants for the fall of 2024.

The committee endorsed the following Oceanside Recreation Services Youth Grant applications, totalling $6,000, for recommendation to the Regional District of Nanaimo for approval. They include:

  • Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association - Youth Basketball - honorariums, advertising, food, equipment - $500
  • Mid-Island Pensioners & Hobbyist Assoc. (Bradley Centre) - Crafting Community Connection - food, volunteer gift cards, supplies - $1,000
  • Oceanside Track & Field Club - track hurdles - $1,000
  • Oceanside Youth Football Association - player equipment - $2,500
  • Ravensong Aquatic Club - coaching fees and new equipment - $1,000

 As well, the OSC supported the following Oceanside Recreation Services Community Grant applications, totalling $29,350, to be approved for funding: 

  • Arrowsmith Agricultural Association - Coombs Pet Expo - advertising, tent rental, equipment - $1,000
  • Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association - Adult Floor Hockey - honorarium, hockey gear - $950
  • BC Cultural Days 2024 - Planning and Funding Committee - equipment rental, supplies - $500
  • Bowser Elementary School PAC - field trip entrance fees - $1,500
  • Corcan/Meadowood Resident Association - Halloween Event - equipment, decorations, entertainment, food - $2,500
  • Errington Elementary School PAC - grade 3 swimming lesson costs - $1,500
  • Errington War Memorial Hall Association - Grandparent/Grandchildren Marimba Camp - wages, posters, promotional video completion - $1,100
  • Forward House Community Society - Cultural Outings Project - activity costs - $1,000
  • MAC School for the Creative Arts (OCAC) - Creative Arts Kids - art supplies, materials - $1,000
  • Mid Vancouver Island Elder College Society - MIEC Fall Campaign - advertising - $2,500
  • Mid-Island Pensioners & Hobbyist Association (Bradley Centre) - Free Community Christmas Dinner - food, volunteer appreciation - $1,000
  • Mid-Island Pensioners & Hobbyist Association - Robbie Burns Dinner - honorariums, food, volunteer appreciation - $550
  • Nanoose Bay Activities and Recreation Society - Parent and Child Drop-In Time - equipment, art supplies, food items - $950
  • Oceanside Football Club - soccer equipment - $2,500
  • Parksville & District and Historical Society - Halloween at the Museum - advertising, entertainment, staffing, food, lights - $1,500
  • Parksville & District Musical Association - Growth, Awareness and Sustainability -  advertising, new payment system, honorarium - $1,000
  • Qualicum Beach Pickleball - new pickleball nets, posts - $2,500
  • Sandy Shores Skating Club - Learn to Skate - advertising, coaching - $2,500
  • The Wonderful World of Books - books, supplies - $2,500
  • VanIsle Walking Soccer - new soccer equipment, wages - $800
