While they felt the sting of finishing with a loss, looking back, the Frances Kelsey junior girls soccer team can now proudly say they outperformed expectations this season.
The team, comprised of Grade 8s and 9s playing against competition made up of teams with Grade 10s, "had an impressive season" according to head coach Adrian Achurch.
"The girls were the only qualifying team from the central Island zone in the Island Championships going undefeated in league play against teams from Quamichan, Shawnigan, and Brentwood," said the proud coach.
At the Island tournament, the girls ran into tough competition with losses to Mark Isfeld and Reynolds Secondary in pool play. They bounced back, however, and beat Ballenas Secondary 3-0 to put themselves into the playoff game for fifth and sixth on the Island.
Despite their efforts to go out on a win, Kelsey fell 4-2 to Stelly's in a back-and-forth game to finish the season sixth overall.
"I feel the future is bright for Frances Kelsey soccer," Achurch said.
In senior girls soccer action, the Ducan Christian School Chargers and Queen Margaret's School teams played in the 'A' Island tournament May 15-16 in Victoria. The results were unavailable at press time.
The DCS team travelled to Langley to participate in the BC Christian School Championship in late April, finishing fourth out of eight teams in a tournament with 'AA' and 'AAA' schools.
