This year's highly anticipated ice show by Fuller Lake Skating Club was another success. Skaters hit the ice in the club's performance titled "A Night at the Museum".
Eighty skaters participated in this year's show, from young kids whose performance consisted of some excellent standing on skates and waving, to solos by more senior skaters. All skaters from pre-CanSkaters to STAR 9 figure skaters, adult skaters and power skaters of all levels put on a great show.
The performance took place at the Fuller Lake Arena on April 12, with a show at 1 p.m. and one at 5 p.m. Local singer-songwriter JoHannah Knight opened the show with the national anthem which was emceed by DJ Jen from The Wave (Nanaimo 102.3 FM). Family, friends and skating fans cheered and applauded as the museum came to life and the skaters performed solos, trios and group numbers.
Each number represented a wing of the museum with the audience treated to hilarious weird scientists, adorable prehistoric dinosaurs, sneaky cat burglars (they stole the Mona Lisa!) and even a mummy who was awakened by unsuspecting janitorial staff.
There were plenty of laughs at the comedic elements, applause for the execution of difficult jumps and spins and the creative expression on display, as well as squeals of delight at the tiniest of skaters.
It was clear that a great deal of work and dedication went into the show on behalf of the skaters, coaches, board members and organizers as well as family and friends of the skaters.
Forget the Louvre — this museum was way more fun.
