Disc golfers enjoy Williams Lake area tournament

“This has always been life long dream,” said Lars Bjorklund, who organized the event

Around 40 disc golfing enthusiasts participated in a two-day tournament in the Williams Lake area over the May long weekend.

The first round was held at Boitanio Park Saturday, May 18 and the second round at Chimney Lake on Sunday, May 19.

For the most part the weather cooperated - holding the rain off for most of the time players were on the courses.

“This has always been life long dream,” said Lars Bjorklund, who organized the event. “I’ve been throwing discs at Chimney for over 40 years.”

He said this was the fifth year he ran a tournament. The first three years were at Chimney Lake only and last year he included the Boitanio Park course because it was the newly-developed.

“I designed the Chimney course and never thought it would be more than me and a couple of friends. To have the Chimney Lake course filled with fun and laughter warms my heart.”

In the pro division Byron Turner, placed first over the weekend with 59 plus 49 for 108, followed by Nicholas Lamb-Yorski, in second with 60 plus 50 for 110, Dylan Stinson got third with 60 plus 51 for 111 and Aaron Neuman won fourth place with 60 plus 56 for 116.

For the intermediate division, Chris Paquette placed first with 65 plus 62 for 117, Mark ‘Shreddie’ Savard won second with 69 plus 59 for 128 and Alex Crook got third with 62 plus 67 for 129.

In the advanced division Dave Zimmerman got first with 56 plus 54 for 110, Chris Ogden was second with 57 plus 56 for 113 and Steve Laird got third with 57 plus 57 for 114.

Players came from out of town to compete as well as several from the Williams Lake area.

“I hope everyone had a good time and let’s do it again next year,” Bjorklund said.
