A person with a bow and arrow on school property has prompted a safety reminder from Royal Bay Secondary.
According to an email sent to parents from principal Mike Huck, shared with the Goldstream Gazette, an incident occurred Monday morning (June 23), when a person was seen in a school field with a bow, arrow and target equipment, "intending to use the area for practice."
Huck says he and another administrator responded quickly and were able to safely intervene, informing the individual that a bow and arrow are not permitted on school property.
"At no time were students or staff at risk," said Huck in his email. "The individual was cooperative and expressed sincere regret, noting the actions were unintentional."
In accordance with the school's safety protocols, the RCMP were contacted.
"As you are aware, all weapons – regardless of intent – are strictly prohibited on school district property," notes Huck. "In addition, school property is closed to the general public during school hours."
West Shore RCMP was also approached for comment.
