Firefighters are working to extinguish a wildfire south of Vert Lake in the south Cariboo on July 2.
The wildfire, numbered C20788, is estimated at 0.78 ha in size and was detected on July 1, with air tankers, a helicopter and firefighting personnel attending the fire the same day.
On July 2, BC Wildfire Service reports nine firefighters were assigned to the fire, as they worked to contain the fire, which is listed as being held. Alkali Resource Management reported on their social media page their firefighters were deployed to the fire.
Discovered July 1 at 9:18 p.m., the fire has a suspected cause of lightning.
The fire is located north of the Dog Creek/Canoe Creek area, on the east side of the Fraser River, around 9 km northeast of the community of Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation (previously known as Dog Creek/Canoe Creek) and 60 km west of 100 Mile House.
