Sicamous Fire Rescue debuted its revamped Maltese cross emblem on Friday, June 28.

The Sicamous Fire Rescue's Maltese cross emblem got a makeover.

In a June 28 Facebook post, the department debuted it's recently re-branded crest that "encapsulates the spirit of courage, dedication and honour that defines our team."

Established in 1953, and formerly known as the Sicamous Fire Department, the organization has a long-standing tradition of excellence.

"This re-branding initiative honours the legacy and dedication of all past and present members who have protected our community with valour and integrity," the post reads.

The new emblem consists of a central shield that features two icon animals from the region, the moose and grizzly bear, which represent the "strengths and qualities we hold in high regard at SFR." There is also an S in the centre for Sicamous, but could also stand for Superhero.

There is also a compass encircling the middle, which represents the departments in guiding the community through natural and human caused emergencies. It also reflects Shuswap and Mara Lakes and the many activities that take place on them, "emphasizing our varied responsibilities," which are also represented by the background of the mountains that surround Sicamous.

Completing the new emblem is a bold maple leaf at the top to show the department's Canadian pride and spirit of unity and service, as well as a fire hydrant on the left to symbolize safety and underscore the SFR's commitment to firefighting and safety in the community.

"We are excited to present this new emblem, which pays homage to our history and looks forward to our future," the post concludes. "It reflects our commitment to serving Sicamous with the highest standards of care and responsiveness."
