The Salmon Arm RCMP has added an electric vehicle pickup to its fleet as part of a nationwide pilot project.

Salmon Arm RCMP is going electric.

The police detachment has added its first electric vehicle, in the form of a 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning pickup, to its fleet. This is part of an RCMP pilot project evaluating zero-emission vehicles for policing across Canada.

Officers in Salmon Arm will be driving the new EV to test its performance in varied operational situations. The public can expect to see the truck patrolling neighbourhoods throughout Salmon Arm and the surrounding areas.

“This is an exciting trial for our Detachment," said Salmon Arm RCMP S/Sgt. Simon Scott. "Testing an electric vehicle in day-to-day policing helps us understand how these new technologies can support policing services while reducing our environmental footprint.”
