South Point Resort owner Leanne Sallenback has raised $1,200 in her inaugural Ryker’s Round-Up fundraiser in support of the BC SPCA.

Sallenback said that no matter the time of year the SPCA is always in need of donations and support. As a big animal person she enjoys helping out animals in need. She named the fundraiser after her dog Ryker, who passed away in July of 2022.

“Ryker was our resort greeter and a very special cattle dog to us. We lost him suddenly in 2022 so we launched this on the year anniversary of his passing,” Sallenback said. “Ryker loved Canim Lake and we thought this was the perfect way to honour his memory.”

During December, in partnership with the Canim Lake General Store, Sallenback organized a special holiday fundraiser for animals in need. By the end of the month, they raised $100 and used blankets, towels and dog toys for the animals’ houses by the SPCA, in addition to the $1,100 Ryker’s Round-Up has raised since July. All proceeds were donated to the Williams Lake SPCA.

“The Canim Lake General store took donations this month from the community and their staff was amazing to partner with. Also Milly & Me Pet Products supplied treats for everyone that donated as well,” Sallenback said.

Sallenback said she intends to keep Ryker’s Round-Up going indefinitely. Whenever her resort is open she has a donation bin set up at the front desk and invites the community to donate online at champions.spca.bc.ca/participant/174/232 or by looking up Ryker’s Round-Up.

“These are items always needed in shelters,” Sallenback said, noting that blankets and towels keep animals warm during the winter. “(I just want) to help other animals find their forever home.”

100 Mile House currently does not have an SPCA shelter but there are several volunteers in the community who will assist animals in need.

They can be reached at 250-395-5303.
