Several communities and regions within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen are now under Stage 2 water restrictions.
The restrictions took effect July 7 and cover the RDOS managed water systems in Willowbrook, Okanagan Falls, Olalla, and Missezula Lake.
The regional district says ongoing drought conditions, limited rainfall and high water demand have led to the increased restrictions.
Residents in these communities have been urged to be mindful of their outdoor water use and to follow the updated watering guidelines.
Under Stage 2 watering restrictions, even-numbered properties are permitted to water one day a week, on either Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, while odd-numbered properties are allowed to water one day a week, on either Wednesday, Friday or Sunday. No watering is permitted on Mondays.
Those with manual watering systems may water between 6 and 10 a.m. and 6 and 10 p.m. on permitted days, while those with automated watering systems may water from midnight to 6 a.m. on their permitted days.
Drip irrigation systems are allowed to be used two days a week from midnight to 6 a.m., and hand-held watering is also allowed two days a week, from 6 to 10 a.m. and from 6 to 10 p.m.
The use of harvested rain water or recycled water for watering is exempt from the restrictions.
