RCMP: Online scammers strike again, victimizing Parksville Qualicum Beach residents

Parksville Qualicum Beach residents continue to be plagued by online scammers.

On March 21, a resident reported a scam involving $700, responding to an email asking for e-transfer banking information while selling an item online. The next day, another resident reported scammed out of $400, also responding to an email, requesting the purchase of a gift card and to forward codes.

The two incidents were among the 229 complaints Oceanside RCMP received the week of March 17 to March 23. Some of the other incidents included:

On March 17, a large landscaping boulder with a house number on it was reported vandalized in the 600 block of Maple Street in Qualicum Beach.

A vehicle was reported stolen in the 1500 block of Beaver Creek Warf Road in Nanoose Bay on March 18. The vehicle was recovered by Nanaimo RCMP on March 30. An aluminum platform valued at more than $800 was reported stolen from a gated outdoor garden compound in the 800 block of Island Highway West in Parksville on March 18.

The same day, a Diadora mountain bike was found at the Springwood baseball fields. Contact Oceanside RCMP during regular business hours to identify and claim quoting this file number.

Two nighttime prowlers were removed from a carport in the 100 block of McCarter Street in Parksville on March 19. Three days later, a man attempted to steal two vehicles in the 200 block of Jensen Avenue East in Parksville. A man was arrested nearby, with charges pending.

Also March 22, a vehicle was reported vandalized with damage to paint and two tires slashed in the 400 block of Morison Avenue in Parksville.
