PQB resident reports being bilked out of $12K by online scammer

Oceanside RCMP also deal with vandals, thieves

A Parksville Qualicum Beach resident reported being scammed out of $12,000, after a culprit gained access to an email account, which allowed access to their cloud account with a credit card linked, on Nov. 25.

During the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1, Oceanside RCMP received 233 complaints. Some of the other incidents included: 

On Nov. 25, a vehicle was reported vandalized with damage to two doors and a door frame in the 1300 block of Errington Road. The same day, two bicycles, one red and one white, were reported stolen from a recreational facility in the 700 block of Jones Street in Qualicum Beach. A residential break-end-enter was also reported, with jewelry stolen, in the 800 block of Bluffs Drive.

On Nov. 26, a resident reported being scammed out of $1,500 responding to a request for money, supposedly from an acquaintance, via an app. Two days later, a male and female were reported to have broken into an unlocked garage and stole a pair of boots in the 100 block of Cedar Street in Parksville. Also Nov. 28, a rock was reported thrown at a vehicle causing damage to a windshield on the Alberni Highway and Island Highway.

On Nov. 30, a vehicle left running unattended to warm up was reported stolen in the 800 block of Primrose Street in Qualicum Beach. The vehicle was recovered by North Cowichan RCMP on Dec. 2, with one male suspect arrested. Also Nov. 30, a trespasser was reported after breaking into a storage shed in the 100 block of Denman Drive in Qualicum Beach.

On Dec. 1, a vehicle was reported vandalized with two tires slashed in the 1300 block of Errington Road in Errington.
