At least six inches of snow greeted residents of Sidney on Tuesday (Feb. 4) morning.
Marcus Durrant was shovelling snow from a path close to his home on Skylark Lane to the West Sidney bike path by Pat Bay Highway just before nine in the morning.
"I'm just paying it forward," he says.
Meanwhile, public works crew have been working non-stop clearing the streets around Beacon Avenue, salting sidewalks and removing snow.
A few business owners were getting ready to open for the day by shovelling snow off their storefronts.
Clearing snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of or adjacent to their property is mandatory for businesses, residents and property owners – a requirement under Sidney's traffic regulation bylaw (sec. 51).
To keep Sidney accessible and safe during snowfalls, the town urges everyone to clear the surrounding sidewalks as soon as they can. They ask the public to consider offering assistance to neighbours who need help clearing snow.
The town prioritizes clearing major roads, collector streets, and downtown streets; local streets will be cleared if time permits. Public works crew will also be clearing snow and ice from intersections and bus stops, beginning with the busiest areas.
