Oak Bay is busy rolling out the welcome mat for its new director of parks, recreation and culture.

Thomas Soulliere, who's set to start on May 5, will be in charge of ensuring the district offers safe environments where residents can participate in a wide range of recreational opportunities, regardless of age, ability, background and economic status.

Oak Bay’s chief administrative officer Selina Williams touted Soulliere's experience. He was recently the deputy city manager for the City of Victoria and prior to that, the director of parks, recreation and facilities management. He also led recreation services for the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Parks Board.

"Thomas brings experience and a reputation as a collaborative, enthusiastic, and accountable leader,” said Williams in a news release. “His leadership, energy and commitment to community in Oak Bay will be key to growing our parks, recreation and cultural services.”

Soulliere is looking forward to the challenge ahead of him.

“I am excited to join the District of Oak Bay team and look forward to assisting staff and council with meeting the service needs of the community," he said in the same news release.
