Little Fort Herefords wins big at 88th Williams Lake Bull Show

"We didn't expect this, but it's wonderful," said Kym Jim of Little Fort Herefords

Little Fort Herefords took home the hardware during the 88th Annual Williams Lake Bull Show on Wednesday, April 16 at the BC Livestock Producers Co-op on Cattle Drive.

Kym Jim and his crews accepted Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, Senior Champion, Reserve Senior Champion, Best Pair Of Bulls, Best String of 3 Bulls and Get of Sire.

"We didn't expect this, but it's wonderful," Jim said as he rounded up his winning bulls for photographs.

They brought seven bulls altogether for the show and sale.

"We've been coming here for over 30 years and our family has been contributing to bull sales for about 60 years," Jim said.

Association chairman Bob Gowans thanked everyone for attending.

"Our numbers are down a little bit, but I think our quality is up. I feel these bulls will work for ranchers out there," Gowans said. "The bulls have all been inspected by a veterinarian."

Gowans said he hopes the show and sale can continue.

"It's a tradition - 88 years is a long time."

He also thanked all the sponsors and the board of directors, who include Pam Abrahamse, secretary, John Herrick, Lorraine Sanford, Adrienne Dickson and Daryl Kirton.

Show judge Todd Marchant runs Schochaneetqua Angus with his wife Pam McGuinness.

"We have been in Big Lake for 20 years and before that were 11 down in the Okanagan. We used to go to Kamloops to sell bulls and then started coming up here."

During the show he offered praise for all six contenders for the grand champion title.

"We have all these great bulls in the ring and it's one man's opinion," he said.

Throughout the show Marchant commented on shape, feet, hips, development of scrotum and muscle.

Cliff Pogany of Creston said the drive was long.

"It took 14 hours and two ferries to get here, pulling a trailer," he told the Tribune.
