Langford school takes safety measures to protect students after bear sighting

Students were kept inside until an authorized adult arrived to collect them

A bear sighting in the vicinity of Millstream Elementary prompted the school to adjust its end of day dismissal procedure as a safety precaution.

Students who would normally walk home, were kept in the library with staff until a parent, emergency contact or authorized adult arrived to pick them up.

Dismissed as usual were students who take the bus and those normally picked up by family or child care facilities.

West Shore RCMP and conservation officers both responded to the incident.

Over half a kilometre from the Langford school, located at 626 Hoylake Ave., is Thetis Lake Regional Park.
