A decision regarding a public hearing looking into the death of 43-year-old Lisa Rauch has been rescheduled to May 26, where retired judge Wally Oppal will deliver his ruling.
The hearing, which was in session in the spring of 2024, looked into the circumstances of Rauch's 2019 death when she was shot in the head with less-lethal ARWEN rounds in a supportive housing apartment by Victoria Police Department officer Ron Kirkwood.
The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner says Oppal, the adjudicator for the hearing, will determine whether or not Kirkwood committed misconduct in relation to the discharge of the ARWEN round, and whether "the failure to complete required documentation following the death of Ms. Rauch amounted to misconduct."
Oppal can also make recommendations to the VicPD chief constable or the police board concerning changes in policy or practice based on the result of the hearing.
