Election Day has arrived on Vancouver Island.

The April 28 election was called March 23 as a trade war with the United States dominated the political landscape. A new federal government is expected to emerge tonight, as Canada’s 2025 snap election wraps up tonight.

The main parties vying for the 343 seats in the House of Commons are Mark Carney’s Liberals, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, Jagmeet Singh’s New Democrats, Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault’s Greens, Yves-François Blanchet’s Bloc Quebecois and Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada.

Polls are open in British Columbia from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. PST.
