The region’s health authority is warning Nanaimo residents about a drug poisoning and overdose risk in the area.
The Island Health Authority issued the advisory on Wednesday, March 6, in a social media post which indicated an increased threat for injection and inhalation drug users. The advisory will stay in effect for seven days.
In the post, the health authority encouraged users to have their drugs checked at 250 Albert St., the overdose prevention site, between 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. daily, to carry naloxone which can reverse an opioid overdose, and to start small, go slow and use one substance at a time.
The health authority continued to advise that if someone overdoses, anyone capable to should call 911, stay with the victim, administer naloxone if possible and perform CPR.
