A high streamflow advisory has been issued for areas around Revelstoke and Salmon Arm by the B.C. River Forecast Centre on July 9.

The Columbia Shuswap region is on water watch after the B.C. River Forecast Centre issued a high streamflow advisory on Wednesday.

The advisory, released at 11:30 a.m. on July 9, is in effect for Upper Columbia tributaries around Golden, Revelstoke and Three Valley Gap, as well as South Thompson tributaries including areas in the Monashee Mountains and east of Salmon Arm.

The advisory is attributed to a front passing across the province, bringing with it the potential for heavy rainfall.

"High-end scenarios indicate the potential for localized rainfall amounts reaching up to 80-100mm with enhancement of rainfall anticipated from embedded thundershowers," it states. "Rivers are expected to rise rapidly on Wednesday and into Thursday."

Smaller watersheds may experience high streamflow, with current modelling indicating a two-year to five-year return period range in some areas.

The River Forecast Centre is continuing to monitor conditions and will provide updates as needed.
