There are few delinquents in Sicamous this year following the July 2 property tax deadline.
In a report to council at the July 9 meeting, human resources manager Shawna Koll presented a tax collection report on behalf of the finance department, with the outstanding amount at 7.32 per cent, down from 8.73 per cent in 2024. That represents $734,540, with $10,039,623 having been paid on time.
Koll added that there are still some delinquent taxes from two years ago of $57,929, also down from the $60,510 in 2024, that will go to tax sale if not paid by Sept. 29.
“Those ones the staff will be working really hard in the finance department to make contact with those people to ensure that, or to hopefully, make it so that we don’t have to have a tax sale," she said.
The report also provided a breakdown of where in the world Sicamous tax notices are being sent, with the majority staying in B.C. at 61.1 per cent, and Alberta having the second-most property owners with 36.6 per cent. Ontario, Saskatchewan, the U.S., Quebec and other areas – including one in Denmark – account for the rest.
