Salmon Arm ROOTSandBLUES is moving up the dates of its annual festival.

After having to cancel the event after just one night this year amidst B.C.’s worst wildfire season, organizers said they’re excited to bump the festival from its usual third weekend in August to July 26-28 for 2024.

“These new dates help ensure ROOTSandBLUES remains a vibrant and sustainable festival that continues to showcase the beautiful Shuswap and enhance the quality of life for residents and the business community,” artistic director Kevin Tobin said in a statement.

Going into the festival’s 32nd year, the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society (SAFMS) hopes the move will provide better weather and less smokey skies to give audiences the best experience possible.

“The Salmon Arm Folk Music Society has paced its fair share of financial bumps and threats from the COVID pandemic and the recent fires in the Shuswap,” executive director David Gonella stated.

“At every turn, we’ve been eager to find a positive solution. Changing dates isn’t a Band-Aid fix, but a chance to be better prepared.”

Early-bird passes to the 32nd annual ROOTSandBLUES will go on sale Dec. 5. For more information and ticket sales, see the festival website at www.rootsandblues.ca.
