Failing to yield at an uncontrolled intersection proved costly for a vehicle driver on Friday, July 4.

According to Ladysmith RCMP, at 12:40 p.m. they responded to a two vehicle collision south of Ladysmith at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and South Davis Road.

The incident was also attended to by BC Emergency Health Services and the Ladysmith Fire/Rescue department.

The RCMP report stated that one driver reported minor injuries and was transported to hospital for further examination, out of an abundance of caution, while the other driver reported no injuries. RCMP officers at the scene obtained numerous witness statements and one driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield in an uncontrolled intersection.

The crash blocked all southbound traffic on the highway until the debris could be cleared up.

The local Ladysmith RCMP want to remind the driving public that turning onto, or off of, a busy highway where there are no intersection control lights, is always a higher risk driving manoeuvre. Drivers should remain cautious and ensure adequate time and distance is available before making a turn in such locations.
