The Ministry of Forests is preparing to burn hundreds of piles of debris and log decks around 100 Mile House starting next week.
On Thursday, Nov. 16 the Ministry announced plans to burn 100 piles in the vicinity of the 2021 Flat Lake Wildfire. A further 50 piles near the sites of the Canim Lake wildfire (C41100), Howard Lake wildfire (C41146), North Deka Lake wildfire (C41515), Dombey East wildfire (C41143), Duckling Lake wildfire (C41145), Drewry Southeast wildfire (C41119), Succour Lake wildfire (C41191) and Drewry South wildfire (C41310) will also be burned.
Burning is expected to begin on Nov. 20, 2023, and will continue periodically until Feb. 29, 2024, when weather conditions are favourable and will allow the smoke to dissipate. These controlled burns are being conducted by Ministry staff and local contractors for the purpose of reducing fuel hazards created by the construction of control lines during fire suppression activities.
Smoke from these controlled burns may be visible from 100 Mile House, Lac La Hache, 70 Mile House, Green Lake, Canim Hendrix Road, Horse Lake Road, Mahood Lake Road, Highway 24, and areas around Canim Lake, Forest Grove, and the Interlakes.
