The Peninsula’s ‘running man’, Cpl. Pat Bryant of the Central Saanich Police Service, is once again dashing off for a worthy cause, and this time, he's joined by police board member and Coun. Sarah Riddell.
The duo is embarking on a gruelling 24-hour running challenge to raise funds and awareness for the Saanich Peninsula Youth Clinic, a vital resource for local youth.
Bryant and Riddell will be participating in the CS Police 24-hour Backyard Ultra on Saturday, July 19, starting at noon.
Their challenge: to run a 4.64-kilometre loop of Centennial Park every hour, for 24 consecutive hours.
The event aims to support the Peninsula's only clinic dedicated to serving youth aged 12-24.
"Young people on the Peninsula deserve care that is welcoming, accessible and built around their needs," said Riddell. "This clinic helps them navigate so many challenges – from mental health to sexual health to basic primary care. We're running to make sure this kind of support is here for them, when and where they need it."
Bryant emphasized the importance of the mental health services the clinic provides.
"Accessible mental health care is a huge part of what this clinic offers – and right now, that’s more important than ever for our youth," Bryant added. "By supporting it, we’re investing in a healthier, stronger future for the whole community."
The community is welcome to come out to Centennial Park to support Bryant and Riddell, cheer them on and even join them for a lap or two.
