This weekend will be about promoting physical fitness and well-being.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) Recreation will be hosting a wide variety of sporting events on Saturday, May 10 to celebrate Move for Health Day, an international event established by the World Health Organization in 2002. The day is dedicated to encouraging individuals of all ages and communities around the world to engage in physical activities and embrace healthier lifestyles.

The events kick off at the Okanagan Falls Recreations Centre and the Similkameen Recreation Centre from 10 a.m. to noon. Activities will include learning basic skills of various sports and activities, such as pickleball, skipping, dancing, catching, jumping and tossing. There is no cost to participate and all ages are welcome to join in the fun. There will be light refreshments provided as well.

"Physical activity is essential for maintaining overall health and well-being," RDOS Recreation stated. "Regular exercise can help prevent chronic diseases, improve mental health and enhance quality of life."

Move for Health Day helps serve as a reminder of the importance of staying active while providing an opportunity for the community to participate in various fun and engaging physical activities.

RDOC Recreations is encouraging the community to come out and join them in activities that promote fitness and good mental health.

"There are countless ways to get moving and make a positive impact on your health," stated the RDOS.
