Cariboo Regional District libraries are closed Thursday, May 9, as unionized employees finish up voting on the employer’s latest offer.

On Monday, May 13, the BCGEU representing 109 workers at the CRD issued 72-hour-strike notice.

The CRD made a latest offer on Monday as well and the unionized employees have until noon Thursday to vote on the offer.

A sign on the door of the library in Williams Lake notes the library is closed due to labour action by the BCGEU until further notice.

Apologizing for any inconvenience, the notice lists contact information for the manager of library services by phone 1-800-665-1636 or email mailbox@cariboord.ca.

simplymastery popped into the main office of the CRD in Williams Lake where unionized employees were still working and waiting to hear the next steps from the union.

On Wednesday, May 8, the CRD issued a news release outlining what services will and won’t be impacted if there is a strike.

Volunteers execute activities of the fire departments and search and rescue so neither will be affected.

Independent contractors operate the landfills and transfer stations and the employees are not part of the BCGEU.
