UPDATE: Cariboo Fire Centre reports wildfire near Becher Lake is being held

A fire located southwest of Becher Lake in the Chilcotin is being actioned on July 20, 2024 by BC Wildfire crews.

Cariboo Fire Centre ihas updated the status of a fire southwest of Becher Lake, in the Chilcotin to "being held" on July 20.

The fire, now estimated as 2.8 hectares in size, is not expected to grow beyond the current fire perimeter given current resources, fuel and weather conditions.

The fire was discovered at 5:29 a.m. on July 20 and initial attack crews responded the same morning. 

The fire is believed to have been a result of lightning which moved through the region July 19.

Numbered C21277, the wildfire is approximately 38 km southwest of the city of Williams Lake and 1.9 km southwest of Becher Lake.

There are currently 325 active wildfires burning in the province of British Columbia, with 45 having started within the last 24 hours.
