The Campbell River Farmers Market is set to return to its traditional spot in Spirit Square on Mother's Day, marking the arrival of warm weather filled with local products and fresh, delicious food.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday (May 11), Wei Wai Kum First Nation hereditary chief James Quattell will welcome market attendees to the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ First Nation's territory where the market is located, according to the Campbell River Farmers Market Society. The market opens at 10 a.m. and organizers will be giving away famous butter tarts to the first 100 "moms." Then, local musician Doug Folkins will also be on stage, starting at 11 a.m.

With the renewed focus and awareness on the Buy Local Movement, this year's farmers market features over 45 farmers, food trucks, and food vendors, says the farmers market, says the farmers market. Additionally, you can explore up to 50 artisans showcasing a range of essential and beautiful products. Don’t miss out on the new market shopping bags, created by participants from the Art Hive at the Campbell River Art Gallery, which will also be available for purchase.

Several local businesses will open on Sundays for the summer. The market will once again have free valet bike parking and a children's activity tent where local non-profits sponsor activities and education throughout the summer.

"The farmers market continues to create a truly community space where we can build relationships and our local economy," Sue Moen, manager of the farmers market society.

The Campbell River Farmers Market generates more than $2 million in economic activity each season, Moen said. This figure includes not only the revenue generated at the market but also the impact on local businesses on market days.

Moen encouraged those interested in attending to visit the new website launched in January, which posts a weekly map of all the vendors, including their profiles, as well as who will be providing the entertainment that week.

“The market is a destination … for locals, for tourists and for fun every Sunday,” said Jeff Groat, the farmers market society president.

The farmers market runs until Sept. 28. For more information, check out the new website: https://campbellriverfarmersmarket.ca/.
