ORIGINAL April 17:
Some Coldstream residents who experienced a 12-hour water outage last week will have to prepare for another one this week.
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) previously advised that a planned upgrade to the Warren Road pump station infrastructure would result in customers being out of water for 12 hours on April 15. The affected properties were 6551 to 7419 Buchanan Road, 10045 to 10512 Warren Road, 6173 to 6205 Highway 6, and 6233 to 6257 Highway 6.
On Thursday, the RDNO said the April 15 work hit a snag: crews ran into unexpected complications with installing the new pipe and were unable to fully complete the work.
This has led to a do-over of the water outage. Those same customers are now advised they will be without water on Thursday, April 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Once the water returns, the RDNO and Interior Health advise that the effected customers will remain on a boil water notice until repeated sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.
Before next Thursday's shutdown, customers are advised to store a suitable amount of water for drinking, cooking, toilets and animals.
When the water service resumes, people in the area may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air in the water. They can run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.
The level of treatment provided by the RDNO will be maintained, but customers in the area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or brushing teeth.
When the boil water notice is rescinded, it will be posted on the RDNO website and sent to email subscribers. Visit rdno.ca/news for updates.
