100 Mile Fire Rescue firefighters were up early Wednesday, Feb. 28 fighting an apartment fire at Parkview Apartments.

Fire chief Dave Bissat said they responded to reports of a structure fire at Parkview, located on Cedar Avenue near Parkside Art Gallery, just before 4 a.m. On arrival, they found one third-storey apartment completely engulfed in flames.

“100 Mile House firefighters were able to contain the blaze to that single unit,” Bissat said. “All other units were evacuated, and one occupant suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital.”

Bissat said 12 firefighters and members of 100 Mile House RCMP, BC Hydro and Fortis Gas attended the scene. During the course of containing the blaze, two of the units below the burning apartment suffered water damage. 100 Mile House’s Emergency Support Services team was deployed to assist those displaced from their home.

With the fire extinguished, Bissat said the other residents were allowed back in their homes at 7 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
