A husband-and-wife duo will bring original music to Cedar and Gabriola Island next week as part of a cross-country tour.
Red Dirt Skinners will debut new music from their ninth album, which they are aiming to release next year, at concerts April 15-16.
Sarah and Rob Skinner have been making music together for about 16 years and said they like to write about real-life experiences.
“We play almost exclusively original music. We do a couple of covers. It’s kind of – I hate the word genre so I’m loath to describe any particular genre – but if people like Pink Floyd, Supertramp, that kind of style, they will probably like what we are doing,” Sarah said.
They will play a sold-out show at Cedar Community Hall on Tuesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. before their show at Gabriola Island's Phoenix Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. the next day.
The band had a successful year last year after Sarah, who plays the saxophone, recovered from partially collapsed lungs. While she was recovering, she took the time to write a memoir about time on the road titled Are You Sure That’s a Saxophone.
She said making music is what the couple is passionate about and they are happy to be able to do it as full-time professionals.
“We are back on the road and catching up and this is the busiest we have ever been. It's fantastic.”
