Editor,
I agree with the concern raised in the letter, Prejudice in the Cariboo, that ideologies that promote fear, prejudice, and hate towards any group in our community are not welcome here. I also agree that it is important to stand up and speak out if/when such ideologies start to take root, and to question those who start to follow such ideas. Where do those ideas come from? Why do people believe them?
Are these ideas creating problems, and if so, how? Rather than an obstacle that we have to remove, perhaps this is an opportunity to learn from people who may have a different perspective. If we truly want to uphold the values of inclusivity, equity, and diversity, wouldn't welcoming diversity of thought be a good first step?
