Wildfire north of Port Renfrew has grown to 7 hectares

Harris Creek fire has doubled in size in past 24 hours

An out-of-control wildfire at Harris Creek near Pacific Marine Road has doubled in size.

The fire between Port Renfrew and Lake Cowichan was first reported at three hectares on July 2. By Thursday (July 3), the fire had grown to seven hectares, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

As of 2:14 p.m. Thursday, the BC Wildfire Service was responding with three initial attack crews, two pieces of heavy equipment and a helicopter. The fire is suspected to be human-caused. There are no current area restrictions near the incident.
