Man, 24, dead in Quesnel workplace incident: RCMP, WorksafeBC investigating

WorkSafeBC and the Quensel RCMP are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man at a workplace in Quesnel.

Quesnel RCMP and Worksafe BC are investigating a fatal incident at West Fraser’s WestPine MDF plant. The victim was a 24-year-old man who worked for an agency contracted by the plant.

The man was conducting maintenance work on a piece of equipment on Friday, Jan. 17, said a spokesperson for West Fraser in an email. 

“We have no further details about the incident at this time and are cooperating fully with WorkSafe as they begin their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased, and our team at Westpine,” she said. 

RCMP, ambulance and the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the report of the incident at 10:18 a.m. Friday. 

BC Emergency Health Services listed the incident as a confined space. 

No information on the identity of the victim or cause of death has been released. RCMP and Worksafe BC are investigating the incident.
