Police are investigating after a lone motorcyclist died in a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Mill Bay on June 5 at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Shawnigan Lake RCMP responded to the report of the motorcycle crash.

Early witness reports indicated that the motorcyclist was travelling north before losing control and colliding with the centre median.

The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The highway was closed in both directions for approximately three hours to allow the investigation and collection of evidence to take place.

It appears that speed may have been a factor leading up to the crash, said Corp. Alex Bérubé, a spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514.
