The Cariboo Regional District will be testing its emergency notification system today (March 12).
An alert will be sent to people based on what they selected when signing up for the system: text, email or phone call.
Alerts will be broken up by region with the first being at 10 a.m. for all rural areas in the CRD, which is every area that is not a municipality. The second alert will be at 11:30 a.m. for the city of Quesnel, after that will be a 1 p.m. alert for the district of Wells, Williams Lake at 1:30 p.m. and 100 Mile House at 3 p.m.
"A test notification will be sent to everyone who is subscribed to receive alerts from the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System, which is powered by VoyentAlert!," the CRD said in February news release. "Over 65,000 notifications will be sent out and received by nearly 30,000 subscribers to their mobile devices, landlines and email inboxes."
People who haven't yet signed up for the system can register at voyent-alert.com or by downloading the Voyent Alert! app on their devices. One of the goals of the emergency notification system is to ensure everyone receives evacuation alerts and orders during the upcoming wildfire season. The system will notify people about floods, fires and any other disasters they need to be aware of.
Residents can also register to receive alerts for multiple locations, allowing them to know if the area where they live, work or have family receive alerts.
