The 100 Mile House RCMP say that they received a report of a suspected fraud concerning a site soliciting funds for a Canadian political party as part of its 73 calls to service between March 11 and 18.
Sgt. Brian Lamb said the fraud was reported to RCMP on March 17, which had been of suspected fraud concerning an internet site that claimed to be soliciting funds for a Canadian political party. Lamb said RCMP were advised the website was not actually affiliated with the party and appeared suspicious, so no funds were sent.
The RCMP would like to remind the public to be very careful in what information is provided online or by telephone and always to confirm the agency someone is representing before providing any information. Lamb said they get multiple reports weekly about scams like this, and that more information about those scams and how to protect yourself can be found at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre-centifraude.ca.
Dog found tied to a tree
On March 15, the RCMP responded to a report of a dog that had been abandoned and tied to a tree alongside the road on the 4000 block of Highway 97. RCMP attended and with the help of concerned citizens had been able to calm the dog and get it to a police vehicle.
Lamb said RCMP then escorted the dog to a vet clinic in Williams Lake. The dog is described as being a German Shepherd that appeared to be in good physical condition. The BC SPCA were advised.
Mischief
RCMP responded to reports of mischief and a hit-and-run on Alpine Avenue on March 16.
Lamb said that a vehicle described as a grey Dodge 2500 truck was seen hitting a parked vehicle and the garage door of a business at the 700 block of Alpine Avenue. The vehicle subsequently crashed through a chain link fence, causing considerable damage.
RCMP are looking for information on the driver of the vehicle who was described as being a Caucasian female with long brown hair, wearing a sleeveless shirt at the time of the incident.
Single vehicle rollover
Finally, on March 14, the RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 97 north of 108 Mile House.
Lamb said RCMP had been alerted by the driver who was at the hospital seeking treatment for his injuries. RCMP attended the scene where the vehicle had been found over an embankment with severe damage. The single occupant had been treated at the hospital for undetermined injuries. Lamb said impairment was ruled out as a factor.
