100 Mile House RCMP responded to five separate vehicle collisions as part of the 98 calls for service between Mar. 25 and Apr. 1 of 2025, according to a news release compiled by Sgt. Brian Lamb.

The collisions took place on the evening of March 27 and the morning of March 28, when the RCMP responded to the five collisions that had taken place separately on Highway 97 between the areas of 103 Mile House and north of Lac La Hache. Lamb said a sudden weather event which included heavy snowfall and melting conditions were contributing factors.

In one incident, RCMP noted injuries were reported but were not serious. Three of the incidents involved single vehicles going off the road and the other involved a tractor trailer which lost control and hit a parked occupied vehicle at a pullout near Prime Country Meats. The tractor-trailer did not stop at the scene.

Vehicle going wrong way

On March 28, the RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver who had been driving on the wrong side of the road near Highway 97 near Canim Hendrix Lake Road. A follow-up report, the police received, stated the vehicle was now in a ditch.

RCMP attended and determined the driver was not impaired, but experiencing a medical event. Lamb noted the driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance for undetermined pre-existing injuries not attributed to the collision.

Driver caught driving while prohibited

On March 28, B.C. Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle on Highway 97 near Knife Creek Road after queries showed the registered owner of the vehicle had been prohibited from driving. After the RCMP spoke with the driver, it was confirmed the driver was prohibited from driving under the Motor Vehicle Act and the Criminal Code. The driver was issued an appearance notice for court at a later date and the vehicle was impounded.

Theft from vehicle

On March 28, RCMP received a report of a theft from a vehicle which had been parked on McMista Road near Highway 24. The window of the vehicle had been smashed and a horse blanket, grain, and clothing items were taken. RCMP do not know when the theft occurred.

Shoplifting incident

On March 31, RCMP received a report of a shoplifting incident at a business in the 300 block of Highway 97. Lamb said a female, described as appearing young, left with items that were not paid for. RCMP say they will be reviewing surveillance to attempt to identify this person.
