June 28 marks the beginning of the fourth annual Twilight Concert Series, hosted by the St. Andrews Lodge Historical and Cultural Society in Saahtlam Park on Qualicum Beach’s waterfront.
The 2025 series will feature a wide variety of accomplished Island musicians who have made their mark locally, nationally and internationally, according to a news release by SALHACS.
There will be five concerts – June 28, July 12, Aug. 2, Aug. 16 and Aug. 30.
Admission is by donation, keeping in spirit with the society’s motto of "open to all". All proceeds, once musicians are paid, will go towards the continued restoration of the historic St. Andrews Lodge.
The initial concert will feature Qualicum Beach’s Finch and the Fiddler, who offer a wide variety of musical genres.
Bev Finch and Tom Neville are no strangers to the stage. With decades of professional experience in both live and studio situations to draw on, (both have written and released a full album of their own), they are planning to release a new album together in the near future.
Finch is known for her solid rhythm and finger style guitar playing, satiny smooth vocals and image invoking lyrics. Finch's original music can leave her audience breathless, in tears, or laughing out loud. She commands the stage with emotion and humour and her songs leave audiences humming long after the last notes fade away.
Multi-instrumentalist Neville (the “Fiddler”) is the perfect pairing and musical partner for Finch. He is a seasoned pro, recording and touring with the likes of Juno award winner James Keelaghan, chanteuse extraordinaire Joelle Rabu, roots/pop singer songwriter Babe Gurr, Django styled Gypsy jazz band The Hot Club of Mars and Typsy Gypsy, and local blues stalwart Gerry Barnum.
Together, this dynamic duo offers up an eclectic repertoire including pop, rock, folk, country, blues, American Songbook, original and contemporary.
The concert gets under way at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and dancing shoes.
Saahtlam Park is located at 3319 Island Hwy W. The park is wheelchair accessible.
