Director Lisa Dugaro called it an “awesome adventure.”

Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School students put on a comedic adaptation of a Shakespearean classic for audiences at 100 Mile House Junior Secondary, May 21-23.

Zombeo and Juliet, a gory and modern take on Shakespeare's great tragedy about two star-crossed lovers from feuding families, was written by Kathy Martin and Phil Nohl. In it, the Houses of Montague and Capulet have been replaced with the Montgomerys, a family of zombies, and the Decapitates, zombie hunters.

Needless to say, the play drew a lot of laughs.

“I thought the students did great work,” says Dugaro.

“They all showed a lot of enthusiasm throughout the process, and the audience could tell they were dedicated to their roles. I heard a lot of good feedback as well, especially about [Grade 12 DJ and peer tutor] Kelsey Shearer, [Grade 9 storyteller] Petra Perkins and [Grade 9 student] Jacob Smith as Ty. "Furthermore, I think it was the student matinee whose audience of Grades 6-12 appreciated the show the most.”
